UN R124 Updates Strict Test Rules for Retroreflective Marker Replacers
The United Nations Regulation No. 124 (UN R124), governing retroreflective devices fitted to motor vehicles and motorcycles for road safety identification, has officially rolled out revised, stricter testing protocols targeting aftermarket replacement reflectors sold across the European market. This regulatory adjustment brings major compliance changes for manufacturers, motorcycle accessory exporters, wholesalers and cross-border sellers supplying reflective marker replacement parts for EU-registered vehicles and two-wheelers.
Traditionally, UN R124 set basic photometric, durability and environmental resistance benchmarks for original-equipment retroreflective markers installed on cars, scooters, street bikes and adventure motorcycles. The newly updated version tightens multiple critical test items specifically designed for replacement reflectors, which are widely used as aftermarket repair parts and modification accessories.
